MUNICIPAL SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND DANCE
Pinearq, together with Estudio Norniella, won the first prize in the competition opened by the Pozuelo de Alarcón city council to design the new School of Music and Dance for the municipality.
The urban implantation is conditioned by the urban planning of the area ― with railway accesses and public transport ―, a marked unevenness of the land and the idea of creating a large square that orders access and can be used by both the school and the city. Thus, a single building is proposed, as an iconic element of the city, which incorporates the three main uses operating independently.
These three uses are the classroom area, the living areas, and the auditorium. Volumetry, then, is presented as a grouping of three closed boxes with semi-private spaces between them. In the design, circulation spaces are limited, the use of natural light and the visual relationship with the exterior are prioritized, and a series of exterior spaces is established to facilitate these premises.
The use of ceramics is proposed as a material that allows a circular economy since it focuses on the clear conviction of the reuse of all resources. The construction systems will be prefabricated, so elements can also be recovered for later reuse or recycling. The KM0 philosophy defends local materials' consumption to promote respectful habits with the environment and local traditions.
