It seeks to meet the individual and collective needs of maintenance, control and therapies that affect "the physical, mental and social well-being" (WHO). The hospital accommodates and symbolizes a subject’s possibility to experience a corporal and mental reformulation, thus participating in the organization and the social development.

The physical space of the hospital must allow the care process to take place in a healthy environment that helps to improve the physical condition of patients. This text is based on the concept generically designated as "comfort in hospital spaces" applied in European hospitals. This concept has been developed by various authors from different areas of study, such as nursing, environmental psychology, architecture, etc. The specific qualities of the spaces dedicated to healthcare functions can seriously affect the individuals involved in therapeutic activities.
