CITIES AND COMPLEX FACILITIES

Cities, and the buildings that compose them, have to face up to the challenges of rapid urban growth. Cities and buildings organise the territory, structure the landscape and determine the future of our societies through their multiple connections and the convergence of many and varied kinds of knowledge.

The complexity of these processes and challenges calls for an innovative approach in thinking in order to take informed decisions and create urban environments that are healthier, safer and inclusive. To create a better world.

For more than 30 years Pinearq has been developing key knowledge for the construction of efficient, habitable and sustainable environments; as a result we have accumulated solid international experience in the creative development of spaces for health. We develop and manage projects and strategies for new infrastructures and urban developments to integrate each component of the smart city through a unique vision of design.

Our work is the result of efficient design, sensitive to the setting and integrating the latest developments in the intelligent management of services, security, water, energy, waste and environmental impact.

We are always trying to enhance that experience by adding new tools which can improve our processes in design, construction and management. That is why we constantly collaborate with other organisations in promoting technology and innovative services for buildings and cities.

PINEARQ LAB

This is the channel through which we explore new ideas and relationships in order to develop our knowledge, improve our services and maximise our impact.

Here, we collect the review articles, research and innovation projects that we develop at Pinearq.

INDUSTRIALIZED HOSPITALS: RECOVERING LELÉ

The search for low-cost and fast-executing construction technologies has led to experiments with industrialized processes on a massive scale through fast-production factories. In healthcare architecture, an exceptional example emerged in Brazil: it has become a fundamental model for the industrialization of hospital construction. We share in this text the research we are carrying out on the industrialized hospitals of João Filgueiras Lima — alias Lelé.

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE NEW PEDIATRIC CANCER CENTER AT THE SJD

In a children's hospital, children break with their familiar environment, so they need this new environment to facilitate and allow them to carry out their daily activities: sleeping, reading, studying, playing. In the new Pediatric Cancer Center for the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona, an environment has been created that fosters feelings of comfort, security, affection, everyday life and interrelation. We have sought to soften an experience that is always unpleasant: going to a hospital.

HOW TO INCREASE BED CAPACITY TO ADDRESS THE COVID-19?

Arup, combining the multidisciplinary and international experience together with Pinearq's hospital design experience, has created CareBox; a guide that addresses the global need for more beds, with scalable, modular, and fast-building solutions that can be transported, deployed and applied to provide additional capacity in a range of specific environments, from existing healthcare campuses to independent facilities.
